TL;DR

Ad Cleanse does not collect, store, or transmit any of your browsing data. The extension works entirely within your browser. We have no idea what sites you visit — and we want to keep it that way.

Ad Cleanse ("we," "us," or "our") is a free browser extension for Mozilla Firefox. This Privacy Policy explains how our extension handles — or more accurately, does not handle — information about you.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

We want to be explicit. Ad Cleanse does not collect or have access to:

The websites you visit or your browsing history
The content of web pages you view
Search queries you enter
Your IP address or location
Any personally identifiable information
Passwords, form inputs, or payment information
Cookies or local storage from websites you visit

3. How the Extension Works

Ad Cleanse uses Firefox's webRequest API to inspect and block outgoing network requests that match known ad and tracker domains. All filtering logic runs locally on your device. No request data is ever sent to our servers.

4. Filter List Updates

Ad Cleanse periodically downloads updated filter lists from our servers or trusted third-party sources (such as EasyList). These requests contain no information about you or your browsing activity — they are simple file downloads, similar to a browser checking for software updates.

5. Crash Reports and Diagnostics

Ad Cleanse does not include any crash reporting, telemetry, or analytics SDK. If something goes wrong with the extension, we do not receive automatic notifications.

6. Extension Permissions

Ad Cleanse requests certain Firefox permissions to function. Here is why we need each one:

webRequest / webRequestBlocking — Required to intercept and cancel ad and tracker network requests before they load.
storage — Used to save your preferences (e.g., whitelisted sites) locally on your device. Nothing is synced to our servers.
tabs — Allows the extension icon to display the blocked-ad count for the current tab.
<all_urls> — Required to apply blocking rules across all websites you visit. We do not use this to read page content.

7. Third-Party Filter Lists

Ad Cleanse uses publicly maintained filter lists such as EasyList, EasyPrivacy, and similar community-maintained resources. These lists are downloaded from their respective public repositories. Please refer to those projects' own privacy policies for information about their practices.

8. Children's Privacy

Ad Cleanse is a general-purpose browser extension not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children.

9. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, provide notice through the extension or the Mozilla Add-ons listing. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
